SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD: PUTTING GOD ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE

In today's fast-paced world, people spend much of their lives pursuing success, wealth, careers, possessions, and recognition. While these things have their place, they can never satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart. Many people are anxious about tomorrow, worried about finances, and uncertain about the future.

Jesus addressed these very concerns during His famous Sermon on the Mount. He pointed His listeners away from anxiety and toward complete trust in God.

He declared:

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." — Matthew 6:33

This verse is one of the greatest promises in the Bible. It teaches believers that when God becomes the highest priority in life, everything else falls into its proper place according to His perfect will.

Seeking God's Kingdom is not simply attending church once a week or occasionally reading the Bible. It is a daily commitment to live under God's authority, pursue His righteousness, and place His will above our own.

Throughout Scripture, God consistently blesses men and women who choose Him above all else. Their lives demonstrate that putting God first always leads to lasting peace, purpose, and eternal reward.

When God offered Solomon anything he desired, Solomon did not ask for riches or power.

Instead, he prayed for wisdom.

Because Solomon sought God's wisdom above earthly wealth, God blessed him with wisdom, honor, and riches beyond measure.

His life reminds us that when God is our priority, He knows how to provide everything else according to His will.

"No one can serve two masters." — Matthew 6:24

"And His righteousness."

Righteousness means living according to God's standards.

"But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct." — 1 Peter 1:15

God calls His children to reflect His character.

Abraham: A Life Centered on God

Abraham consistently placed God above personal comfort.

When God called him to leave his homeland, Abraham obeyed without knowing where he was going.

"By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called..." — Hebrews 11:8

Even when asked to offer Isaac, Abraham trusted God's faithfulness.

His obedience demonstrated that God was first in his life.

Because Abraham sought God above everything else, he became the father of many nations.

Mary and Martha: Choosing What Matters Most

Luke 10 records the story of Mary and Martha.

While Martha was busy with many responsibilities, Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to His teaching.

Jesus said:

"Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." — Luke 10:42

This story reminds believers that spending time with Christ is more valuable than becoming consumed by life's distractions.

Service is important.

But fellowship with Jesus must come first.

Practical Ways to Seek God's Kingdom First

1. Begin Every Day With Prayer

Starting the day with God helps align our hearts with His will.

"In the morning You shall hear my voice." — Psalm 5:3

Prayer invites God's wisdom into every decision.

2. Study the Bible Daily

God's Word reveals His will.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path." — Psalm 119:105

Regular Bible reading strengthens faith and provides direction.

3. Worship God Wholeheartedly

Worship reminds believers that God alone deserves glory.

True worship transforms hearts and renews perspective.

4. Live in Obedience

Obedience demonstrates genuine love for Christ.

Jesus said:

"If you love Me, keep My commandments." — John 14:15

5. Trust God's Timing

Seeking God's Kingdom includes trusting His schedule.

"Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart." — Psalm 27:14

God's timing is always perfect.

The Blessings of Putting God First

"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." — John 6:38

Even in Gethsemane, He prayed:

"Nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done." — Luke 22:42

His obedience secured salvation for everyone who believes.
As followers of Christ, we are called to imitate His example.

Living With an Eternal Perspective

Seeking God's Kingdom changes how believers view life.

Instead of living only for temporary success, they begin investing in eternal purposes.

They become:

Faithful servants

Compassionate neighbors

Generous givers

Bold witnesses

Prayerful disciples
